Brewing Your Brand: The October Edition
When LinkedIn Gets a Little Haunted...
Have you ever logged into LinkedIn and felt like something was missing?
Your profile looks… off. And then you figure it out, entire sections are gone.
Your recommendations? Vanished into thin air.
Before you assume you’ve been cursed by the LinkedIn spirits, here’s what’s really happening:
LinkedIn is currently updating its internal coding and infrastructure, which means you might notice a few spooky surprises: sections missing, formatting glitches, or content that looks temporarily invisible.
Things should normalize soon, but it’s a timely reminder of something I recommend to every client: Download your LinkedIn data.
💾 How to Download Your LinkedIn Data (and Protect Your Presence)
Here’s the quick refresher:
Go to Settings & Privacy → Data Privacy → Get a copy of your data
Choose Download larger data archive to include everything: profile info, posts, recommendations, verifications, contacts, etc.
Hit Request archive — LinkedIn will email you when it’s ready.
I do this quarterly, but even I panicked yesterday when my recommendations disappeared. Some of my newest ones weren’t captured in my last backup. As soon as my recommendations came back to my profile, I did a quick screenshot of the new ones. And I was glad that I did, because they soon disappeared yet again. Am I certain they will come back again? Yes. But I am still glad to have record of them, just in case. Lesson learned.
Your data is your professional history. Don’t leave it at the mercy of LinkedIn’s backend updates.
🕸️ Brewing Your Brand Tip of the Month
Since we’re in spooky season, here’s a thought:
If LinkedIn ghosted you tomorrow, would your digital footprint still tell your story?
Ask yourself:
☑️ Can you reach your key contacts and connections without going through LinkedIn?
☑️ Is your About section saved somewhere offline?
☑️ Do you have screenshots or backups of your best-performing posts?
☑️ Are your testimonials or recommendations stored outside the platform?
🎃 Little Treats for October
DIY Influence Corner:
Stay tuned for our upcoming expert session with Christine Campbell Rapin: a not to be missed conversation about how to attract high-intent buyers every week. It’s happening on October 23rd at 3PM ET, so if you’re not a member, it’s not too late to join us and attend Christine’s session. And if you join before 10/20, with a three month commitment you will be able to join our Personal Brand Refresh Bootcamp at no charge.
A Caffeinated Quick Tip:
Write one post this week just thank someone who’s impacted your work, that you met IRL, or who inspires you. It builds goodwill and engagement: no tricks, all treats.
As I write this, I’m sipping a pumpkin spice latter latte (yes, I love them).
The city’s starting to glow in those early-autumn tones, and it feels like the perfect time to reflect, reset, and refresh your digital presence.

A PSL and a crisp fall day are my favorite combination
✉️ Letters to Lilly
If you missed it on LinkedIn, I recently shared something special: an invitation to contribute to my upcoming book with Alexian Wines, Your Letters to Lilly.
It’s a collection of letters filled with hard-earned wisdom, resilience, and heart.
Whatever lessons you wish you’d known sooner (about Life, Leadership, and Loving Yourself = LILLY) your story might just belong in its pages.
You can read the post( and submit your letter!) here:

☕️ Until Next Brew
Remember to back up your data.
And also remember: even when LinkedIn feels haunted, your brand magic is very much alive.
See you next month,
Melissa
